Emmer Effer - From The Bottom Down

Emmer Effer is a four-piece out of LA who like to keep their songs short and to the point.

If you’ve heard 2015’s “Nailbiter”, you are already familiar with Jessica Knight’s distinctive vocals. You either love them or hate them. There doesn’t seem to be much wiggle room.
Five years after their last album and godknowshowmany years into the band’s existence, Unsane is back with “Sterilize”.
With his ever unshaven face and uncombed mop of hair, Rhys Ifans has the scruffy, washed up rocker look down pat. So it was about time he played one. Here he stars as Len, a former punkrocker turned successful music producer/complete asshole. After becoming disillusioned with the music business and running off during an awards show, he has holed up somewhere in the buttcrack of nowhere determined to take self-pity to a whole new level.
Banner Pilot aren't playing shows as often as they used to so when you get the chance to see them, you should. Like at Fest. Also, their most recent album came out three years ago.
So one of the gazillion bands playing at Fest is Boston's Rebuilder. You know them. They recently released a really good EP called "Sounds From The Massachusetts Turnpike" via Panic State Records.
Atlanta-based emo rockers Blis. recently released their debut album, “No One Loves You”. I know, sad title. Sad music too.
Gold tells the true story of Kenny Wells (Matthew McConaughey), a gold prospector who followed in the footsteps of both his father and grandfather. But unlike the men in his family that came before him, Kenny doesn’t have luck on his side. He runs the family business into the ground and is down to his last dollars. But then he decides to take one last chance and bets everything he has on a high-stakes mining operation in Indonesia run by geologist Michael Acosta (Edgar Ramirez). And guess what? They hit the motherlode.
If you had told me about Guardians of the Galaxy a couple of years ago, I would have thought it was a really bad band name. Like, German power metal bad. But writer/director James Gunn managed to turn a rather generic story around these lesser known heroes (we use this term loosely when it comes to Guardians of the Galaxy) of the Marvel galaxy into a fun-filled adventure that was a comedy first and a superhero flick second.
One of my favorite new bands that I stumbled across this year was Philadelphia's Fire In The Radio. Well, actually I didn't just stumble. They completely floored me with their new EP.
