Following up on last year’s Ready To Roll, Teenage Bottlerocket return with The Invisible Man EP, a short, four-song collection pulled from the same recording sessions. Fun little detail: each of the band’s three main songwriters are represented among the tracks, giving the EP plenty of variety in spite of its short running time.

Bassist Miguel Chen handles the title track, leaning into some of the mid-tempo, slightly new wave-inspired sound from the LP, with lyrics that tap into the urge to disappear from the noise of modern life. Ray Carlisle chips in with “You Made Me Get Called A Poser” and EP closer “City At Night,” while Kody Templeman brings in “Pembrey’s Face,” another nod to the band’s love of horror themes.

It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it doesn’t really need to be. Just a solid, fun release from a band that knows exactly what it’s doing.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
