I’m all for artists evolving artistically and ageing gracefully. Look at how U2 went from releasing anthemic songs in the 80ies to their ‘Songs of…’ trilogy. No wait, bad example. Want another bad example? Look no further than Mad Caddies’ new album, ‘Arrows Room 117’.

On their first album not released on Fat Wreck, Mad Caddies treat you to twelve songs that are like the AOR-version of what they used to stand for. Which I guess makes sense seeing as other than vocalist Chuck Robertson, none of the other original members are still in the band.

Gone are the furious ska-punk songs and inventive genre mashups. What you are treated to are songs that are barely one step above Jimmy Buffett island vibes and a pina colada with a tacky umbrella. Next stop? Margaritaville.

Arrows Room 117 track list:

  1. Green Eyes
  2. Palm Trees and Pines
  3. Arrows Room 117
  4. Beautiful Bed
  5. Darkness
  6. Everywhere you go (there you are)
  7. Run
  8. Baby
  9. Ride or Die
  10. Backroads
  11. Looking for the Answers
  12. In the Morning I’ll be Gone

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
