Can someone tell the guys in Guttermouth to knock it off already? First they don’t release anything in ten years, now they release two EP’s in five months’ time. They’re spoiling us with this snotty punk rock overload!

“New Car Smell” picks up right where they left off with “Got It Made”, serving six more punchy slabs of catchy punk rock that – although harmless - will probably piss off all the politically correct punks. Whether vocalist Mark Adkins goes off about your partner becoming too chubby (“Spud Like Torso”) or them simply not being new enough anymore (“New Car Smell”), the lyrics are still delightfully un-PC and come with tongue planted firmly in cheek.

Even better news is the fact that these songs are just plain good. Especially “Soundtrack To The End Of The World” and “Mail Order Bride”, both of which come with plenty of palm mute action, short solos and ridiculously strong choruses. The other songs fall a bit short in comparison, but there’s still plenty of fun to be had with cuts like the Dead Kennedys vibe of “Spud Like Torso”, the title track and “The Human Mulligan”.

When Chris reviewed “Got It Made”, he ended his review with the words ‘Guttermouth might actually be great again’. Seems about right.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
