Written over the course of a week during a particularly challenging time for frontman and Single Mothers’ only permanent member Drew Thomson, Roy is a complete anomaly not only within the music scene but within the band’s own catalog. It’s a far cry from the scathing hardcore rippers of their beloved 2014 release, Negative Qualities, and it bears little resemblance to the more mellowed post-punk sounds that populated 2022’s Everything You Need.
CONSTANT SPRINGTIME, the full-length debut of Washington D.C.’s Magazine Beach, was written over two years in an attempt to make an album that’s intentional, emotive, and radically different from our previous endeavors. During this time, they deliberately wrote only the 11 songs that are on the album. Through extensive writing sessions individually and collectively, they distilled their favorite emo, hardcore, folk, and power pop tropes into a work that examines the concept of “The Album” as a medium.

The two title tracks from this A-side come from the band’s differing perspectives during the pandemic. “These songs were recorded in 2020 which we all know was a pretty crazy year (to say the very least).
