Philadelphia’s Big Nothing recently released their third, self-titled album, out now on Dead Broke Rekerds. The ten new songs find the band settling into the space between the power-pop of their debut and the mellower stylings of 2022’s Dog Hours, with a mix of jangle pop, alt-country and echoes of The Replacements.

Opener “Sick Of It All” sounds way catchier than what you’d expect from a song with that title, while album highlight “Won’t Be Around” packs one of the album's strongest choruses. Bassist Liz Parsons takes the lead on “Cruisin’” and the poppy “Stumble,” two more standout tracks, while the aptly named “Hook” and closer “Somethings” leisurely make their way towards the exit.

The only downside is that most of the songs are stuck in the same unhurried gear. A few more dynamic shifts would have made the album even more enjoyable. Even so, there’s plenty to enjoy on Big Nothing’s self-titled album, which suits the breeziness of the summer months just fine.
