Formed from the ashes of 1980s UK hardcore stalwarts HDQ when legendary guitarist Dickie Hammond passed too soon, Diaz Brothers are combining melody with thick duelling guitars on ‘The World Is Yours,’ the follow-up to their self-titled 2020 debut. And boy, do they combine it well!

Comprised of four gnarly northerners and one southern softy (their words, not mine), the Diaz Brothers excel at writing tunes that hit hard while still leaving plenty of room for melody. For a band that admittedly only practices once every couple of months, the songs on ‘The World Is Yours’ are incredibly well-rounded and cohesive. Kind of like an angrier version of Samiam or Dag Nasty with some more surprising influences such as The Who, The Stooges, The Ruts and prime mod revival era rock, which shine through on a song like ‘Who Am I’.

It’s hard to single out any songs when every song is as strong as the ones that make up ‘The World Is Yours,’ an album that sounds huge and comes with zero fat.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
