Do you like post-rock? Or are you more of a shoegaze kinda person? Either way, Native Lights have you covered on their moody self-titled album. Built around Ester Drang’s Bryce Chambers and Unwed Sailor’s Johnathon Ford, these guys have quite a bit of musical experience between them and it shows.

Whereas a lot of bands dwelling in this scene tend to get stuck in one particular sound, Native Lights know how to divide their attention and keep things interesting by constantly letting their sound morph from atmospheric to edgy over groovy before landing on just plain rocking. The rhythm section is as tight as can be, the hushed dreamlike vocals blend in perfectly and the guitars swirl all over the place, supported by delicate touches of keyboard in all the right places.

If you – like me – have never heard of these guys before, you are in for a treat!

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
