Left Lane Cruiser is another swampy blues act on Alive Records (Black Diamond Heavies anyone?) and fuck me if they aren’t doing an awesome job. “Bring Yo’ Ass To The Table” is filled with tons of urgency, pedal steel, sweat, gritty as can be vocals and a whole lot of scotch. The pedal steel and vocals come courtesy of Freddy J IV while Brenn ‘Sausage Paw’ Beck is pounding the drums as hard as he’s pounding back the whiskey in between takes. Which probably didn’t please Freddy J, hence the anger in his voice. But Brenn is much more than just the drummer. He also plays a mean harmonica and can yell along with the best of ‘em when he saw that Freddy discovered the scotch bottles he had hidden somewhere in the studio.
Whether the songs are about food (“Pork N’ Beans”) or speak out about racism (“Justify”), these guys tackle all of them with so much energy that you can’t help but get sucked right in. And christ, try standing still with “Set Me Down” blowing out the speakers… talk about a physical impossibility. Now all I have to do is figure out a way to get these guys to Belgium!
Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
