Los Angeles-based band The Manic Standstill are back with a new emotionally charged anthem in the form of their latest single, “Go Away,” a melodic, upbeat duet featuring Nicolette Vilar of beloved LA pop-punk outfit Go Betty Go.

The collaboration between vocalist/songwriter Adam Bones (Save Ferris, Richie Ramone, Josie Cotton, The Two Tens) and Vilar has been nearly a decade in the making. Originally conceived years ago, the project found new life during the creation of The Manic Standstill’s upcoming album. “It felt like the right time to bring it back,” Bones shares.

Bones unearthed an old demo with a strong melody and structure but admittedly weak lyrics. “Nicolette liked the demo, and we both agreed it needed new words. Later, while hanging out with friends at her place, she came downstairs with a spark of inspiration, and we started writing right there on the spot.”

The result is a resonant and relatable song about two people in a relationship—whether romantic, platonic, or familial—caught in the push-and-pull of adventure versus stability. Their vocal chemistry and storytelling make “Go Away” a highlight in The Manic Standstill’s growing discography. The song is accompanied by a video marking Bones’ directorial debut, blending footage of the band performing with tour clips from his time filling in on guitar for Go Betty Go. “I just wanted it to feel fun and real,” says Bones. “It was a blast to make.”

Produced by Bones and drummer Brad Dickert at Tacaboom Studios, “Go Away” follows recent singles “Reasons Why” and “Bulletproof” and paves the way for The Manic Standstill’s forthcoming album, Moving, out later this year via Wiretap Records/Double Helix.
