Friends I Wish I’d Had
6.5
- by Tom Dumarey
On their second EP, South East UK’s Brutalligators play their cards just right as they veer from uplifting indie emo punk - think Menzingers meets Dikembe - and more atmospheric parts to a complete scorcher like ‘Kill Your Heroes’ over the course of just five songs.
Broken hearts, life going wrong and everything else that’s messed up in the world today might not be the most fun subject matter. But you wouldn’t tell it from the band’s music, which is always upbeat and joyous and pulsates with a sense of hopefulness. Good stuff and very different from what I expected from a band called Brutalligators.
