Formed in 2009, Japanese punk trio Dizzy Sunfist have steadily built a reputation at home, and they are now making their debut on Fat Wreck Chords. Our Dream Is Not Dead isn't a new release, however. Instead, it gathers re-imagined and re-recorded "Fat Wreck Versions" of past fan favorites curated by Fat Mike himself. Serving effectively as a "best of so far" collection.
What you get is the familiar melodic punk rock template that made Fat Wreck famous, delivered at a hyperkinetic pace that wore me out within two songs. The album delivers an unrelenting barrage of rapid-fire drums, frantic riffs, and high-pitched vocals that quickly cross into irritating territory.
If this material represents the highlights of Dizzy Sunfist’s catalog, I have little desire to explore the deep cuts.
