Bitter Branches is what you get when you put Deadguy’s Tim Singer and Paint It Black/Kid Dynamite/Lifetime’s Dan Yemin together in a room with members of Walleye, Cavalry and Lighten Up!.

Produced by Jawbox’ J. Robbins, Let’s Give The Land Back To The Animals doesn’t sound like either Deadguy Or Paint It Black though. Instead of rehashing past glories, the band delivers ten tracks of sludgy, dissonant post-hardcore that feel spiritually closer to The Jesus Lizard than anything in their collective back catalog. It’s loud, raw, and jagged, with a sense of space that makes every riff feel heavier than it should.

Let’s Give The Land Back To The Animals is a solid example of a band locking into a groove that feels both hypnotic and suffocating. and sound like they belong on the AmRep roster.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
