Album Reviews

Written after the death of a lifelong friend and former bandmate, 84 Tigers’ sophomore album is a deeply personal one that finds the Michigan trio transforming grief into cathartic and resilient post-hardcore anthems.
Formed by brothers Mike and Ben Reed (Small Brown Bike) and longtime friend Jono Diener (The Swellers), 84 Tigers came out swinging with their 2022 debut Time In The Lighthouse. The follow-up finds the trio expanding their sound and delivering an album full of post-hardcore bangers. ‘Two Rivers’ (featuring Rocky Votolato) sounds like CKY one moment, before turning into something more reflective. Elsewhere on the album, bands like Small Brown Bike (obviously), The Casket Lottery, Quicksand and Seaweed come to mind. The latter’s vocalist, Aaron Stauffer, delivers some guest vocals on ‘Regeneration Days’.
Between the three of them, 84 Tigers manages to whip up a wall of sound that manages to be both moody and melodic and which guides you through the darkness to the light.
