Norwegian punk rock band Fat Lars have released “Sunset Ride,” a melodic punk rock track inspired by California and the atmosphere of Los Angeles.

The song originated several years ago, when the band developed a number of guitar riffs that they felt had potential. “Sunset Ride” was initially intended for the band’s first album, but the track was not completed in time and was subsequently put aside. Following a change in guitarists, the band returned to the track and began reworking the original idea. Several sections were rewritten and rearranged as the new lineup developed the song together, eventually arriving at a version that better represented the band.

The lyrics are based on an imagined drive along Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles at sunset, with the sun gradually disappearing over the ocean. The image of the drive and the surrounding atmosphere provided the starting point for the song’s story. Fat Lars’ bass player developed the concept into the lyrics, translating the setting and imagery into the narrative of the track.
