“MCII” comes with ten power-popsongs about love and associated emotions that take cues from The Beach Boys, Big Star and a garage band like The Sonics. I have to say that with songs like “Shout It Out” and “Peace Of Mind”, Mikal Cronin sounds decidedly sunnier on his second album than on his debut.

Cronin doesn’t shy away from the distortion pedal but underneath the guitars, you’ll find traditional pop songs that are a pleasure to listen to. And he gets additional bonus points because he did pretty much everything by himself on the album (except for two solos by Ty Segall).

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
