Beachwood Sparks released a couple of albums at the beginning of the century full of West Coast pop  and country rock with an additional psychedelic twist , taking cues from The Byrds, Gram Parsons and The Flying Burrito Brothers. You could make a case saying they were ahead of the times. It makes sense that they’re releasing a new album now that so many younger bands are doing the same thing.

“The Tarnished Gold” is full of gems that don’t sound all that different from what Wilco did on albums like “Being There”. Just check out “Leave That Light On” or “Earl Jean” and get carried away before being moved by “Water From The Well”, a song that shows that Elliot Smith might have passed way but his spirit still lives on. I could have done without “No Queremos Oro”, which stands out like a used condom in a convent. Other than that this is the perfect recovery album after a wild night out.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
