The UK’s Lastoneout describe their sound as ‘polite post-hardcore’. If that makes you think they are a soft-spoken bunch, you’ll be in for a surprise when you listen to their new EP, “This Was Never My Story, It’s Yours”.

Harkening back to the mid 00’s sound of bands like Funeral For A Friend, Saosin and Story Of The Year, they are living proof that music moves in cycles. Doesn’t matter if they are merely paying tribute or trying to breathe new life in the genre, there is no denying they know how to inject their material with plenty of energy and melody. Tracks like “It’s Better To Burn Out” and “Two Months Eight Weeks” come packed with big hooks, smooth leads and a solid grasp of dynamic shifts.

Sure, it’s not exactly original and the songs kinda blend together after a while. And personally, I’m kinda ‘been there, done that, got the shirt’. Then again, I’m an old fart. So if you are a fan of the abovementioned bands, make sure to give Lastoneout a listen.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
