Adult Magic recently released their sophomore album on Dead Broke Rekerds and it’s an absolute doozy. Are You Even Happy Now? packs ten new songs filled with all the buzzing guitars, big hooks, and wistful melodies you could possibly ask for.
Featuring Chris Arena (Crow Bait, Sister Kisser, Radar), Jesse Litwa (Iron Chic, Broadcaster), and Mike Bruno (Get Bent, Iron Chic), this New York trio bangs out the kind of life-affirming anthems that recall everything from Iron Chic, Samiam, Superchunk and even earlier Goo Goo Dolls. Picking a favorite track is pretty much an impossible task. There isn’t a single dud on this thing.
My favorites? “Seneca Mantra” takes everything I love about The Creeps and makes it punchier, “The Wreck” is relentless and packs some of the album’s best melodies, while closer “Roll Along” is heartland rock at its best. One of the finest albums I have heard in quite some time.
