Brooklyn post-punk mainstays SAVAK have dropped the video for their excellent new single, “Child’s Pose,” a track that blends visceral energy with introspective—and politically pointed—lyricism. The song is a preview of the band's upcoming seventh album, SQUAWK!, set for release on May 30 via Ernest Jenning Record Co. and Peculiar Works Music.
Initially conceived as a personal reckoning, "Child’s Pose" tackles emotional dysfunction and generational trauma, but as singer/guitarist Michael Jaworski explains, the song soon evolved into a broader critique of the toxic political climate: “It started as a bitter breakup song, but morphed into a reflection on how we’re being ruled by emotionally stunted narcissists... It’s about recognizing bullshit and standing up to it.”
The single rides a taut, garage-punk groove before breaking into a soaring, hook-laden chorus—a classic SAVAK move that underscores their signature blend of aggression and melody. “Child’s Pose” also featured on a UK tour flexi disc and sits alongside the album’s dynamic range of sounds—from angular jangle-pop to Velvet Underground-style droning and glammy flair.
SQUAWK! is available for pre-order now on Bandcamp, and fans can catch SAVAK on tour this spring and summer, with stops in cities including Brooklyn, Washington DC, Boston, and Philadelphia. Select dates feature performances with The Gotobeds, Faraquet, and Upper Wilds.
