Wes Hoffman & Friends are gearing up for their next chapter with the release of their second full-length album, For The Better, via SBÄM Records. Today, we are premiering their heartfelt new single “Promises”.
“Promises is a song about a relationship or friendship ending. You’re thankful and glad it’s ending, but you’re still holding onto secrets shared between you that you’ll hold forever,” says frontman Wes Hoffman. “You question why it’s ending and why the person moved on, but you’ve also accepted it.”
Musically, the song leans into a darker tone while maintaining the band’s signature anthemic energy.
“When writing ‘Promises,’ I wanted the song to have a bit of a darker tone while still giving it a strong melody for the chorus,” Hoffman explains. “I also wanted to add some more technical riffs on guitar, all while keeping it melodic and fun. It’s a little more melancholy, but it sticks with the anthemic vibes we’ve become known for. I can’t wait to see people singing along to this one.”
What began in 2017 as a studio project between Hoffman and drummer Hes Retnu has since evolved into a full-fledged band with a loyal following. After adding longtime friend and bassist Jacob Boyd, along with a rotating cast of musicians, the group has continued to push forward with infectious energy and a clear sense of purpose.
Blending punk beats, riff-heavy guitars, and honest, emotional lyrics, their sound recalls the golden era of Vagrant and Drive-Thru Records, while adding a modern, melodic twist.
Their debut EP, Rewrite The Story, dropped in January 2022, followed by extensive touring alongside bands like FEAR, A Wilhelm Scream, No Trigger, Mad Caddies, The Iron Roses, and Belvedere. In 2023, the band signed with Jump Start Records to release their debut full-length, How It Should Be, in February 2024.
