I'm very happy to get to premiere the music video of 'Plot Holes,' the latest song taken off Local Drags' debut album 'Shit's Lookin' Up', out now via Stardumb Records (Europe) and out soon via It's Alive Records (US) .

Local Drags is Lanny Durbin of Attic Salt/Starter Jackets fame and drummer Matt Sailor. Together, this Springfield, IL duo cranks out Midwestern power pop meet pop-punk with some 90ies alternative sounds thrown in for good measure. Think Cheap Trick, Replacements and The Copyrights rolled up into one and set to scenes lifted from 80ies classic Fast Times At Ridgemont High.

Lanny about the song:

"Lyrically, the song is about writer’s block driving me crazy and into depression. About staring at a blank page, feeling stuck, which is a regular occurrence with my writing. That’s what was happening with the lyrics of “Plot Holes” so I just used a bunch of filler lines and “la-la-la’s” and lines from other songs for a while. And then some of them ended up being keepers. Kept some of the stolen lines as well, like the line lifted from Elvis Costello and the Attractions’ “Accidents Will Happen.” I ended up really liking the cut and paste vibe of the lyrics, which is what writing often feels like anyway. Like almost catching it and then losing it again, over and over and over.

The song ended up fitting in nicely with the new batch of songs for this record. While recording, I said I wanted a noisy intro, but because I’m not a shredder or anything, Luke (McNeill, producer) added a bunch of scratches and about a hundred pick slides over the drum beat. Pick slides are cool, right?”
