Southern California is known for warm beaches, plastic faces, and the kind of music that talks about one or the other side of the illusion, the illusion or what lives behind the glitz and the glamour. Original Son lands firmly in the latter camp, serving up melodic punk rock-truths since 2018.

Now they’ve partnered with Sell The Heart Records to release their debut album, Currents, which recorded at the Canyon Hut in LA’s fabled Laurel Canyon, and produced by Tim Hutton. The effort sees release February 17.

Fans of Dead to Me, Red City Radio, Bouncing Souls, and Nothington will admire Original Son for continuing the tradition of pulling no punches, while ensuring their melodies get burned into your head.

The first single from the album is titled “Parasite” and is out now. This is what singer Johnny Calderwood had to say about it:

“The last few years has been like watching the snake oil salesman of old, except now they have platforms to reach millions of people and ruin lives at a grand scale. This song is just calling it as we see it, a grift as old as time—disinformation and division, it’s parasitic.”
