Atlanta punk band New Junk City today shares "Shell Game," a sharp look at the compromises work can demand from the people and relationships around it. The song is the second single from the band's forthcoming fourth full-length album, Where Could I Go?, arriving November 6 via Lauren Records.
"Shell Game" turns its attention to the time, energy, and pieces of ourselves traded away in exchange for stability. Watching someone repeatedly get knocked down and rationalize the cost as simply "what the money's for," the song questions when providing for a life together begins to consume the life itself.
"We all make sacrifices and have our own calculus on what our jobs provide and what we're willing to allow them to take from us," the band says of the song.
