Album Reviews
After relocating to Seatlle from different cities, Kat Trash, Matt Bogie and Gwen Static met through a Craigslist ad, bonded over record collecting and a love of touring and decided to start Trash Sound Conglomerate. Their first feat? This 2-song 7” on Top Drawer Records, the label run by Sicko’s Ean Fernandez.
The members of Trash Sound Conglomerate share equal amounts of love for everything from The Descendents, Black Flag, The Marked Men and Jawbreaker to The Ergs!, Joyce Manor and even Ween. That’s an awful lot of different influences ranging from pop-punk to hardcore and whatever Ween is filed under.
But instead of writing a pop-punk banger with an über-brutal breakdown or a hardcore rager with a poppy chorus, TSC take a different approach on their 7”. ‘Miracle Of Science’ is a sugary pop tune with buzzing guitars. The vocals feel a bit flat, but overall a solid tune. And then in comes ‘History Class,’ bringing hardcore ferocity to the table and sounding more like what I’d expect from a band called Trash Sound Conglomerate.
With each band member contributing to the writing and plenty of stuff to be angry about, I’m sure we’ll be hearing more from Trash Sound Conglomerate in the not so distant future. Will it be poppy? Will it make you want to 2-step like it’s still the 80’s? Your guess is as good as mine.
