Whatever you think a project between MGMT’s Simon Doom, American Nightmare’s Jim Carroll and Doomriders’ Q is going to sound like, Spiral Heads sounds even better. On their self-titled EP, they crash their way through just three songs and leave you begging for more.

You might have already heard opener ‘Baby’s Got Bangs,’ which is built around a nearly irresistible hook that is then filtered through scuzzy punk rock and made even better by surf-y guitar licks. Next up is the equally short and equally awesome ‘Done,’ which manages to sound beat-up, tired, catchy and energetic all at once while closer ‘A Number From Outer Space’ is a 5-minute long psychedelic jam about aliens because... why not.

In their bio, these guys reference everyone from The Damned and Buzzcocks to early Nirvana and primo Portland punk outfit Wipers. If any (or all) of those tickle your fancy, do yourself a favor and check out Spiral Heads.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
