“Stranger Songs” is the name of My Fictions’ latest release and in case you’re wondering ‘stranger than what?’, well… shit, you’re on your own there. These guys are pretty good at unleashing post-hardcore chaos before reeling it back in and containing the noise. While the drums are hard at work most of the time at pulverizing everything in sight, the guitars swirl, dive and constantly seem on the verge of performing a crash landing before pulling up just in time. Meanwhile, all of this is accompanied by the kind of anguished howls courtesy of Bryan Carifio that will have psychologists realize that starting a hardcore band makes for great therapy.

“Stranger Songs” is bleak yet strangely beautiful at the same time with haunting riffs, plenty of unexpected rhythm twists and jerks and a general sense of unease that keeps pulling you back in. Clocking in at 30 minutes, My Fictions keep things concise, to the point and interesting.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
