Seth Bogart (aka Hunx) is back for another run with his punx with an new album they recorded in a couple of days. On “Street Punk” however they have - for the most part - traded in their usual garage pop for some in your face thrashers that are the musical equivalent of a chubby biker’s pelvic thrusts. If you’re not sure what I mean by that, just listen to opener “Bad Skin” or the 30-second blast that is “Everyone’s A Pussy (Fuck You Dude)”.

Shannon Shaw (of Shannon and The Clams) takes over vocal duties on about half of the tracks (e.g. “You Think You’re Tough” and “Mud In Your Eyes”) with what can be best described as a set of rusty pipes wrapped in barbed wire. As she and Bogart trade off vocals, we race through songs that linger somewhere between The Misfits, early 80ies hardcore and 90ies riot grrrl ditties. They even cover the Beastie Boys’ “Egg Raid On Mojo”. “Street Punk” sounds like a band that goes onstage drunk out of their minds and decides to simply have a fun time. And those of you in the audience who decide to go with it rather than wonder what the fuck happened to the doo-wop ballads, will be rewarded at the end with “It’s Not Easy”, a ballad that will make you want to slow-dance with the chubby biker under a banged up mirror ball.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
