Girl Tears is a punk trio out of LA/Orange County who attack every single song on their sophomoric full-length with the same three chords, an overall dark energy and vocals that made me think of a cross between Glenn Danzig and TSOL’s Jack Grisham. Unfortunately, two vocalists I have never been particularly keen on.

The fact that they blast through eighteen songs in twenty-two minutes doesn’t exactly help things either. After the first couple of tracks, everything starts to morph together in one big pile of pounding drums, thumping bass lines and distorted guitars where it’s next to impossible to discern separate songs.

“Woke Against The Tide” harken back to the punk sounds of yesteryear, when bands like The Germs and Agent Orange tackled every song like it was their last. While there’s plenty to be said for bands who play with that much vigor, the lack of variation between songs and the monotonous vocals kinda ruin the fun for me.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
