Luke (Jake Johnson) and Kate (Olivia Wilde) are good friends who work together in a brewery. The two of them have a blast at work, where they get to spend their days flirting and drinking beer. It looks like they are made for one another but both of them are in a relationship. Luke is even about to get married with his girlfriend Jill. Things change dramatically however when the two couples go off on a weekend together.
At first sight, Drinking Buddies looks like just another rom-com. But there is one big difference… all of the actors improvise all the time. It makes the dialogues more realistic and even though the movie is far from perfect, it is a nice change when you hold it up against other flicks in the genre.
Extras on the DVD include audio commentary from director Joe Swanberg, deleted scenes and interviews with the cast among other things.
