An action flick that takes place in a desolate, snow-covered setting? Can I get a hell yeah? Fargo, A Simple Plan, Reindeer Games… all solid movies! And at first it looked like we could add Deadfall to the list. Liza (Olivia Wilde) and Addison (Eric Bana) are brother and sister and together they just robbed a casino when they crash their car while trying to make their way into Canada. They split up and while it’s smooth sailing from there for Liza who runs into an ex-con named Jay, her brother starts racking up the bodies.

There are a couple of cool scenes here, especially when Bana gets all evil during Thanksgiving dinner. Unfortunately director Stefan Ruzowitzky (Die Fälscher) felt it was necessary to throw in themes like an incestuous relationship and tons of guilt along with some fucked up family ties that wouldn’t like out of place on Dr. Phil’s couch but are way too heavy for what would’ve otherwise been an extremely enjoyable action movie.

So yeah, he loses some points there. If however you can look past that and manage to ignore some of the more far-fetched plot twists towards the end, this movie ain’t half bad.
