Denver, CO's Public Opinion are back with a new three-song EP, Perpetual Motion Machine, arriving September 19th via their new label, Side One Dummy. The EP is a promising start to the band's next chapter, drawing more melody out of Public Opinion's primal punk while keeping the unhinged glint that makes their music so compelling. Today, Public Opinion have shared the EP's monster opening track, "Laughing Academy" which features guest vocals from none other than Drug Church frontman, Patrick Kindlon. The track bursts from the speakers, careening from swaggering garage rock riffs into a massive chorus, all while vocalist Kevin Hart and Kindlon perform the most pissed-off duet you've ever heard.

Public Opinion–Hart, drummer Austin Latare, guitarists Kevin Johnson and Brent Liseth, and bassist Sebastian Stanley–emerged from the Denver, Colorado, hardcore scene in 2020 and have evolved from spunky proto-punks into an anthemic rock & roll powerhouse. Perpetual Motion Machine follows the band's debut album, Painted On Smile, which came out last year. The new songs were recorded by Christian Gutierrez and mixed by Brett Romnes (Anxious, Oso Oso, I Am The Avalanche) and they pick up where Painted On Smile left off, dialing up the band's catchy and confrontational blend.

Public Opinion's hooks are as tenacious as Hart's dogged lyricism, and Perpetual Motion Machine explores  the trials and tribulations of trying to balance your creative life with your real life. "It could be taken as 'why are we doing this still?'" Hart half-jokes. "And, to be fair, I do often feel this way. I’ve shaped my life to allow me to create and perform music, so when you start getting diminishing returns, it can feel like 'what the f*ck have I done to myself?'" But Public Opinion's determined stubbornness is part of their charm: this is music for the mutants, they're going to make it whether you're listening or not, but you'll be happy that you did. "The tightrope walk between trying to pursue creative endeavors while also being a grown adult with responsibilities isn’t always fun," says Hart. "but it certainly can be rewarding."
