Upcoming Releases

French alt-emo band Paerish will release their new album Rita on October 16 via SideOneDummy Records. The band has also shared “Vapor Cloud,” the second single from the record, following “Wait For Dark.”
“Vapor Cloud” reflects on the band’s years of writing and the desire to maintain a creative life over time. Vocalist and guitarist Mathias Court says the song grew from the question of whether the urge to create can fade as people move beyond their twenties and settle into other parts of life.
That idea connects to Rita’s broader focus on childhood memories and the experiences that first inspired the band to make music. “I think there’s a vital need, as an artist, to never lose touch with those creative feelings tied to childhood and adolescence,” Court says, “because they remain an endless source of inspiration.”
The album was produced by longtime collaborator Will Yip at his studio in Philadelphia. Paerish shaped the songs with live performance in mind, resulting in a more direct approach while retaining the shoegaze elements present throughout their earlier work.
Court describes Rita as an album about “childhood memories, the passing of time, and the need to preserve a sense of creative sincerity through the years.” Its title refers to a bell tower visible from his family’s apartment in the South of France, named for Saint Rita, the patron saint of lost causes.
The 11-track album also addresses working life, relationships, jealousy, nostalgia and the challenge of maintaining a creative practice over time.
