Upcoming Releases

New York City post-hardcore pioneers Quicksand have officially announced their highly anticipated new album, Bring On The Psychics, set for release on Friday, July 17. Marking a fresh chapter for the influential trio- Walter Schreifels (guitar/vocals), Sergio Vega (bass/vocals), and Alan Cage (drums) - the record bridges the band’s foundational ‘90s sound with the more exploratory direction of their recent work.
Produced and mixed by Jon Markson (known for his work with Drug Church and Drain) over an intensive 10-day session, Bring On The Psychics captures Quicksand once again reshaping the sound they helped define.
Alongside the announcement, the band has unveiled two new singles, “Get To It” and “Regenerate.” Speaking on the tracks, Schreifels emphasized their direct, high-energy approach and underlying optimism. “‘Get To It’ is about pushing past excuses and confronting procrastination,” he explains, while “‘Regenerate’ reflects the ongoing process of rebuilding and finding new paths forward, even in the face of loss.”
Few bands have left as deep a mark on the hardcore scene as Quicksand. Formed in New York City in 1990 from members of influential acts like Gorilla Biscuits and Youth of Today, the group fused hardcore intensity with groove-driven dynamics, helping lay the groundwork for what would become post-hardcore. Their landmark releases, Slip (1993) and Manic Compression (1995), remain touchstones of the genre.
After disbanding at their peak, Quicksand reunited in 2012 and returned with Interiors and Distant Populations, proving their creative evolution was far from over. Now, with their first album in five years and debut for Equal Vision Records, the band continues to expand its sonic identity.
Inspired in part by a quote from Carl Sagan, the album sees Schreifels revisiting early influences while reflecting on the present. The result is a record that spans everything from the punchy immediacy of opener “Get To It” to the atmospheric textures of “Crystallize,” with moments of technical precision and unexpected nuance throughout.
Highlights include the tightly locked bass grooves of Vega on “Cool Guy,” Cage’s dynamic drumming on the title track, and the more expansive, melodic turn of “Days You Run To,” which Schreifels likens to the subtler side of Fugazi, with a hint of Pink Floyd-inspired atmosphere.
With its blend of intensity, experimentation, and cohesion, Bring On The Psychics captures Quicksand at a point where past and present converge seamlessly. As Schreifels puts it, the band is eager to bring this new material to the stage, continuing to push their sound into new territory.
