Founded in the fall of 2023, Boston’s Unseemlier were born from emo nostalgia and a shared passion for raw, unapologetic music.
Childhood friends Mike Assatly, Chris Pina, and Kevin Merriam quickly wrote their first tape, and soon after its release, recruited Andrea Neuenfeldt for bass and vocal duties. Since its inception, Unseemlier have played all over Boston and New England to growing a fan base. Unseemlier’s debut LP, aptly titled I Have A Screw Loose, Somewhere, was recorded in the fall of 2024 with Zach Weeks at God City Studios. The 23-minute-long blast is full of heavy-hitting lyrics that listeners can easily connect with. It rips through themes of addiction and loss, growing up in a suburban bubble, and battling to look at the world in a positive light.
Shortly after a short tour and an appearance at Fest in Gainesville last year, the first pressing of I Have A Screw Loose, Somewhere sold out. Today, a repress of the album, a joint effort with Little Rocket Records in the UK and Sell The Heart Records in the U.S. is announced. In honor of the repress, Unseemlier filmed a music video for the single ‘Worse For The Where?’ at Assatly’s favorite place in the world, the skatepark!
According to Assatly, the song is about, “letting go of worrying about fitting into a mold that you are never going to fit into no matter how much time passes.” He adds, “The ‘American Dream’ is a farce and unattainable for anyone who doesn’t subscribe to the 9-to-5 format we’re forced into. It’s hard not to want to just throw in the towel, but you’ve gotta find your people and get by anyway you can.”
