New York City punk band The Underbites have released their new single “The Ruling Class” along with a video. The track is the second preview of the band’s forthcoming album, Out of Control, which will be released by Italy-based I Buy Records. Drawing from New York and British punk traditions, The Underbites incorporate melodic songwriting and socially focused lyrics into their material.

“The Ruling Class” addresses economic inequality and the divide between those in positions of power and the wider public. The song combines fast-paced punk rock with melodic songwriting and focuses on themes of social and political frustration.

The single follows the band’s recent release of “Panic Button,” a cover of the Johnny Moped song. “The Ruling Class” marks a return to the band’s own material and introduces several of the themes explored on Out of Control, including political dysfunction, social division and economic inequality.

Out of Control contains 12 songs and was produced by Perry Leenhouts of Point Break Sound. The album was recorded at Virtue and Vice Studio in Brooklyn, New York.

The Underbites formed in New York City shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic and have previously released the EP Persons of Interest, followed by Sort It Out and Soapbox Agitprop. The band’s lineup consists of Jon Fox (vocals/guitar), Kurt Feldhun (guitar), Ethan Rosenblatt (bass) and Mike Hoffman (drums).
