Louisville, Kentucky’s Strange Birds, a post-punk band featuring Brandon Butler (guitar and vocals), Ella Jean Lumpkins (drums), and Brian Meurer (bass) is set to release its Little Victories (Sweet Cheetah Records) album on September 4.
Today, the band shares another track from the album, “The Old House.” The song varies in its influences, from countrified rock to meandering guitar-driven indie rock. Imagine Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers if the band were influenced by Seam and Guided By Voices and you’re probably standing outside the ballpark here.
The debut album, Little Victories, is the product of three musicians whose paths took decades to cross. Recorded by the original line up of Brandon, Ella and Matt Olsen in their practice space, the record captures the immediacy of the room where the songs were written and refined instead of chasing studio perfection.
