Twenty-five years after the release of their beloved debut album Perhaps, I Suppose..., Southern California pop-punk pioneers Rufio are celebrating the milestone with a newly re-recorded version of the fan favorite "Dipshit," available now via Double Helix Records and Double Felix Records.

Originally appearing on Perhaps, I Suppose..., which was released on June 12, 2001, "Dipshit" helped introduce Rufio's signature blend of lightning-fast technical guitar work, soaring melodies, and infectious hooks. Now, exactly 25 years later, the band has revisited the track with a fresh recording that bridges the gap between Rufio's past and present while honoring one of the songs that helped define an era of melodic punk.

The release also serves as a taste of bigger and better things to come. From The Outside, Rufio's brand-new EP due out August 7, 2026, is a five-song collection that marks the band's first new music in 16 years and finds longtime members Scott Sellers (vocals/guitar), Clark Domae (guitar/vocals), and Taylor Albaugh (bass/vocals) creating together again on their own terms.

"This EP was something fun to do with the dudes," says Sellers. "We just wanted to make something that we are proud of and had fun doing. I'm at a weird point where I don't really care what anyone else thinks right now. For me it was all about making something with the guys. We are old as hell now, so it's not often we get to hang. So just being a bit more involved in each other's lives felt really fucking good for me."

For the first time in over a decade, Rufio found themselves naturally reconnecting creatively. Rather than chasing trends or attempting to recreate the past, the band focused on writing music that reflected where they are today.

"For the first time, there was no pressure to write a 'hit' and there was no pressure of trying to write according to the direction of the scene—not that it ever mattered to us," says Domae.

The resulting EP captures a more mature and introspective version of Rufio while retaining the band's unmistakable melodic sensibility. Written and recorded remotely between Sellers, Domae, and Albaugh, From The Outside reflects the realities of adulthood, family, loss, anxiety, and personal growth.

"From The Outside represents how much we've aged," Sellers explains. "It's a bit slower, a bit more structured, and a lot more serious lyrically. A lot of life has happened since Anybody Out There was released."

Among the EP's most personal moments is its title track, inspired by the passing of Sellers' father in 2024.

"The lyric, 'Promise me you'll love me from the outside,' is me kind of speaking to my dad after his passing," says Sellers. "He believed in God and the afterlife, and I do not. I really hope he was correct, and that he's proud of my mom and my sisters and me while he's drifting through the clouds."

From The Outside also marks several firsts for the band. The EP features Dylan Roy (Dragged Under, ONI, Skylimit) on drums, it was mixed by JUNO-winner Sam Guaiana (Silverstein, Bayside, Neck Deep), and it was mastered by Grammy-winner Jason Livermore (Rise Against, NOFX, Descendents, Hot Water Music) at The Blasting Room. It is also Rufio's first release through Double Helix Records and their sister label, Double Felix Records.

Despite the years that have passed since their last release, the spirit that made Rufio one of the most influential melodic punk bands of the early 2000s remains intact.

"We are Rufio—still the same old techy pop-punk band," Domae says. "But we wrote songs for us, and I think if you like Rufio, you will like this too. But if you don't, that's fine, too. This isn't about you."

With the release of the newly re-recorded "Dipshit" and the arrival of From The Outside this August, Rufio begin a new chapter while celebrating the album that started it all 25 years ago.
