We are psyched to premiere ‘In Between The Highs And Lows,’ the new single by Useless ID frontman Yotam Ben Horin. The upbeat, horn-enhanced song is the second single off his forthcoming album, ‘Young Forever,’ due May 20 via Double Helix Records (pre-order). Longtime fans of the Israeli punk band might be surprised by the song’s poppy inflections, but the sun-drenched atmosphere is just what we all need now and makes perfect sense to Yotam who wants to take his solo material as far away from punk as possible in order to not sound like “a punk singer playing chords on an acoustic guitar.”
“I wrote ‘In Between The Highs And Lows’ at 2:00 am one night,’ Yotam continues. “I really liked the nonconventional count and felt that I was writing something closer to world music. When I hit the chorus, I started humming "Amoeste Voi" to myself and tried to find words in English to replace that idea but I couldn't think of anything that accented what I was hearing in my head. I decided to look it up and it just so happens that it means "I love you" in Galician so I kept it. The song deals with the ups and downs of being in a long distance relationship with someone whom you don't speak the same language with.”
As has been the case since Ben Horin’s solo debut (2012’s 'Distant Lover' album), each tightly edited track on ‘Young Forever’ provides a welcome contrast to the wild and wooly records of Useless ID without sounding like a scrapped MTV Unplugged shoot.
