UK’s heartland punks The Young Hearts recently treated us to their new EP, the 5-song ‘The Good, The Bad & The Rest Of Us.’

Sounding not unlike the UK’s answer to The Menzingers and The Gaslight Anthem, The Young Hearts deliver five well-crafted songs that are as powerful as they are uplifting. Touching on subjects like personal growth, being disillusioned, and navigating adulthood, this is the sound of four friends growing up. Musically, things are solid as hell. Guitars ebb and flow nicely, the choruses are memorable, and there’s plenty of ooh’s and aah’s to be found.

One point of criticism: as well-written as the songs are, they do all kind of sound the same. Even with just five songs, I found it hard to tell them apart. There’s some strong songwriting on display here, but some more variety wouldn’t hurt things.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
