I hadn’t heard of these guys before, but “Perfectly Competent” is one sweet introduction to Toronto’s Talk Show Host. Calling them “Perfectly Competent” is a bit of an understatement.

The one-two combo that is opening track “I Don’t Wanna Go To The Library” and “Lost And Found” shows off the band’s firm grasp of melodies and these two songs come armed with more ooh’s and aah’s than you will know what to do with. And while they are relatively fast-paced, these tracks still have an easygoing vibe about them that makes them even better. That becomes even clearer in the more mellow “108”, which reminded me of Limbeck sans the Southern twang.

Clocking in at just over 12 minutes, this is a short but extremely enjoyable EP that fans of Blink 182 or Sugarcult should definitely check out.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
