Splitters’ debut album, “Last Time I Swear”, saw the light of day a couple of days ago via FtLP Records. It is a mostly mid-tempo affair, peppered throughout with melodic hooks and plenty of singalong parts, that brings to mind bands like The Menzingers and Larry Arms.

These are the kind of Midwestern punk rock tunes with raspy vocals that beg to be belted along in a basement until the sweat drips down your balls. Skeet skeet. No wait, different artist. Anyway, you get the idea… these Detroit natives have the energy and the melodies and carry their heart on their sleeves as they sing about being stuck in a dead-end job or coming to terms with who you are as a person. Check out opening track “Horrible Terrible” or “Southbound” to get the idea.

“Last Time I Swear” serves as a great introduction to a band that has what it takes to go places. Especially if they manage to get a slightly better production next time around.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
