Mood Change Party
Public Eye is what happens when members of Portland’s Autistic Youth switch instruments and decide to start a new band. The band’s demo, “Mood Change Party”, comes with five songs that reek of post-punk with a bit of kraut-y demeanor. If that makes you think of Spacemen 3 or Ceremony, then you’re actually not too far off the mark.
While tracks like “The Hours” and “Soft Strain” won’t exactly put a smile on your face, Public Eye throws in enough melody to make things a little less bleak and manage to only lose me once during the title track. There’s definitely something there, they just need to spend some more time cultivating it.
