With Stalagmite Angels, Lubbock, Texas-based band Judiciary has released an EP tailor-made for those days when coffee simply isn’t enough to clear the cobwebs. Across its five tracks, the band delivers a downright brutal brew of hardcore with plenty of metallic crunch, death metal, black metal, and d-beat. In other words: a relentless assault that will leave your head spinning.
Stalagmite Angels is a concept record that envisions a subterranean world where, according to the band, “triumph manifests in the ability to rise from the depths and into the world above.” The concept gives Judiciary space to channel their anger and frustration with the state of the world while exploring themes of self-belief and personal growth and the necessity of harnessing both to rise above.
Now reinforced by guitarist Juan Vazquez, Judiciary draws inspiration from the likes of Hatebreed, Carcass, Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, and Iron Age before twisting those influences into something distinctly their own. They aren’t reinventing the wheel on Stalagmite Angels, they’ve just bolted it onto a big-ass truck and sent it barreling through everything in its path.
