On their self-titled EP, Seattle’s Hiding Place have holed up in that sweet spot between indie pop and emo and cranked out four songs in which they show their appreciation for the likes of Death Cab and early Jimmy Eat World.

Opening track “Slave To Your Name” kicks off with delicate vocals and the kind of riff that reminded me of “Title And Registration”. It sways gently between being upbeat and melancholic, before harsher vocals are added to the mix in the second half. Not too shabby for an opening track. It certainly got my attention right away.

Both “The Wayside” and the standout track that is “Hang Your Head” continue to tap from the same vein, before rounding out this EP with the beautiful acoustic track “Desperate Desire”.

I hadn’t heard of these guys before, but “Hiding Place” serves as one helluva calling card.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
