Hailing from Eagle Mountain, Utah, Captives dropped this 5-song EP called “Afterimage” a month ago. It’s filled with the same kind of swirling guitars, pounding drums and emotionally driven dual vocal (courtesy of Jeffery Mudgett and Trevor Bookout) we love about Balance And Composure and Brand New.

The five tracks on here are pretty good, still a little rough around the edges but the way they manage to combine energy and aggression with more atmospheric build-ups is quite good. Captives don’t deviate too much from their formula throughout the 28 minutes that “Afterimage” lasts but that’s okay, they’ve almost got the sound nailed down. I’m pretty sure they’ll get it completely right on the next album.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
