So first there was the John Grisham novel, which I enjoyed. Then there was the subsequent Tom Cruise movie, which I thoroughly enjoyed as well. And now there’s the show, which well… I didn’t really enjoy. At all. And let’s be honest, was rather unnecessary.

The show picks up 10 years after the events from the book/film and starts with Mitchell McDeere (Josh Lucas), his wife Abby (Molly Parker) and their daughter Claire (Natasha Calis) coming out of witness protection and living in Washington, DC. There he ends up in trouble with a mobster’s son and  gets involved with another shady law firm. For a lawyer, Mitchell seems to be a rather shitty judge of character, no?

The Firm is part weekly procedural, part conspiracy theory that gets dragged out all across this first season. Not sure which of those comes with the most ridiculous storylines, but I’m not going to keep watching just to figure that one out.
