Hailing from a small surf and fishing town on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, teenage punk rock trio Supernal – consisting of Bryn Rodgers on guitar and vocals, Jayda Prescod on bass, and Tor Kingsley on drums – have released their new single “Self-Detained”.
Serving as the penultimate track off their debut album Saltwater Static, the song explores the painful transformation of a close friend changing into someone ingenuine under the influence of outside media and social norms, while grappling with the lingering guilt of whether being more present could have helped redirect them.
Formed in December 2022 and rounded out by Jayda in January 2024, the band has built momentum playing across Costa Rica – including opening for California punk legends Strung Out – and recently completed a western Canadian tour.
