Upcoming Releases
Video game ska-punk outfit The Wavebirds are set to release their debut album In All Their 2.4 Ghz Glory on May 15, arriving in both digital and physical formats after nearly a year in the making.
While digital releases have become the norm, the band is leaning hard into nostalgia with a physical release on CD designed to stand out. The CD includes two exclusive bonus tracks, a detailed lyric booklet, and a custom case modeled after a classic Nintendo GameCube game box.
“Everyone said we were crazy for making physical CDs,” said trombonist Mike Dorval. “But I think we’ve really made something special. The case alone is a piece of art.”
Musically, the record blends upbeat ska rhythms with gaming-inspired storytelling. Tracks range from a high-energy anthem about a breakup during a Mario Kart session to a heartfelt tribute to a beloved Animal Crossing character. Across the album, The Wavebirds emphasize fun, nostalgia, and the shared joy of gaming.
Formed in 2019, the five-member group came together over a shared love of ska and video games. Drawing inspiration from the carefree spirit of 1990s third-wave ska, The Wavebirds combine that sound with a sharper, modern punk edge. Their music pays homage to iconic titles like XCOM, Animal Crossing, and Mario Kart, offering a playful yet polished take on gaming culture.
With their debut release, The Wavebirds aim to strike a chord with both ska enthusiasts and gaming fans alike.
