Durham, NC post-hardcore band TREASURE PAINS and Portland, OR noise-rock outfit SPARES have teamed up for a brand-new split EP, due out September 26th on Wiretap Records and Council Records.
The release features two uncompromising tracks that channel frustration, urgency, and raw energy. Treasure Pains contribute “Left to Give”, a furious yet melancholic cut that speaks to societal regression and indifference. “Left to Give is about the anger and exhaustion felt watching society move rapidly backwards, while so many others don't even seem to notice or care,” the band explains.
Formed by Jessi and Zach (Youth League) and rounded out by Kellette and Kyle (wolvesx4), Treasure Pains emerged from collaborative writing sessions into a fully realized post-hardcore force. Their 2024 debut album Charming (Wiretap Records) introduced their unique blend of melancholy and aggression, paired with unrelenting intensity.
On the flip side, Spares deliver “New Indignities”, a jagged and driving anthem dissecting the absurdities of modern life. “It’s a ripper, a litany of complaints about the lameness of contemporary life laced with the recognition that so many others have it so much worse,” says vocalist Gabriel Mathews.
Formed in 2022 by members of North Lincoln, Youth League, Lock and Key, Shores, Amusement, and FeverSleep, SPARES have quickly carved out a reputation in the Northwest for their blistering live sets. Their self-titled debut EP (released February 2025) drew praise from Razorcake as “a six-song blast of dense rock with a fair amount of jagged edges… Immersive.” Sonically, the band draws from ‘90s-era Dischord, early Touch & Go noise rock, and San Diego’s angular post-hardcore scene—balancing beauty and grit in equal measure.
The TREASURE PAINS / SPARES Split EP arrives September 26th on Wiretap Records / Council Records.
